Get Eating

Following its success in schools as part of NSMW last year Britain’s Biggest School Lunch is back as part of Get eating day. This is an easy day to organise for schools as it simply involves inviting people for a school lunch. This could be any one from a well known or popular parent or grandparent, the local Mayor, school governors, MPs, representatives from emergency services or armed forces, key players from a local football team or many more.

The day is supported by LACA Partner, Mars Foodservice, and their delicious Dolmio Ready to use sauces. To find out more about the Dolmio support please go to www.iloveschoolmeals.co.uk/dolmio. They are offering free product, recipe books and vouchers when you register on the website. But please sign up early to ensure you don’t miss out.

We heard last year that one school served an extra 50 meals today and then even more during the week as it created so much interest. So it is worth giving it a try.

Ideas for Schools

  • Invite local celebrities into your school to have lunch with the pupils. This could be your local MP, Mayor, Councillors, members of the armed forces, local celebrities or anyone else you think would be interesting for young people to meet.
  • You can create some fun in the dining room and involve pupils in decorating it or creating special menu posters to publicise the event. These could be done as part of an art project that fits in with a whole school approach.
  • Ask the students/pupils who they would like to have lunch with and organise a vote to see who you should invite.
  • Encourage children to make the invitations to invite their chosen celebrity. Or you can download them from this website.
  • Don't forget to visit the Dolmio pages on this website to claim your free product or money off voucher. There are also some great recipes you can download and use on this day.
