Thursday

Off we go to Easingwold School, York Road, Easingwold in North Yorkshire where Bob Davies has just been voted Secondary School Caterer of the Year by EDUcatering Magazine.  There will be a school assembly where Tony Begley from Mary’s Meals will talk about the charity that provides free school meals to thousands of poor children in countries like Malawi and Somalia.  Students will be able to try the fortified porridge that is served by Mary’s Meals.  You can download the Change4Life quizzes here and see how may answers you get right; there are different quizzes from Key Stages 1 to 4.

The idea of today is to show how fortunate young people in this country are to have a delicious and healthy meal at school every lunch time.  It makes it much easier for children to have two or three portions of their 5-a-day at school.  Against this we contrast those young people in poorer countries who are going to school not just to learn but to have something to eat.  This will often be their only meal of the day.  If you want to find out more about Mary’s meals please go to www.marysmeals.org.uk.

Some schools are asking pupils and students to bring just a few pence to give to the charity.  3p will feed a child for one day so whatever is given will make a real difference.
