Get Eating

Following its success last year Britain's Biggest School Lunch and Get Eating day is back. Today LACA is encouraging schools and local authorities to invite people into school for lunch. This could be parents, grandparents, Mayors and councillors, MPs, representatives from emergency services or armed forces, local football teams and many more.

The day is supported by LACA Partner, Mars Foodservice, and their delicious Dolmio Ready to use sauces. To find out more about the Dolmio support please go to www.iloveschoolmeals.co.uk/dolmio. They are offering free product, recipe books and vouchers when you register to take part in the week on this website.

It's an easy and great event to get involved with and last year one City authority increased meal numbers by over 2,000 on just this one day. To help make your day a great success you can do some of the following:

Ideas for Authorities

  • Invite local celebrities into a school to have lunch with the pupils. This could be your local MP, Mayor, Councillors, members of the armed forces, local celebrities or anyone else you think would be interesting for young people to meet.
  • Use the toolkit to get your local schools involved.  This includes letters to headteachers and school councils and a letter to invite guests into a school. It couldn't be easier to get your event up and running.
  • Ask the students/pupils who they would like to have lunch with and organise a vote to see who you should invite.
  • Encourage children to make the invitations to invite their chosen celebrity. Or you can download them from this website.
  • Don't forget to visit the Dolmio pages on this website to claim your free product or money off voucher. There are also some great recipes you can download and use on this day.
